Chernobyl Typeface

Peaktop Het.4

This type set was created as a short term personal project in 2011 based on the disaster at Chernobyl in 1986. As an alternative I decided to create a Cyrillic typeface as opposed to a Roman one. The types style is based on the dispersion and decay of the nuclear particles released from the No.4 reactor at the plant.
In addition to the typeface a type set poster was also developed. It was created in such a way that it would not only present the typeface, but also explain more about the idea behind it. The poster consists of numerous 'levels' of folds. When the folds are peeled back it gives off the effect that the poster is exploding. Each level of the poster consists of a 'radiation perimeter' indicating the levels of the element 137Cs released into parts of Europe.
The typeface as a whole is by no means a perfect article, it was created in a short period of time for purely experimental purposes.
